In 2001 he was awarded a PhD in Anthropological Sciences with a thesis entitled Genetic Characterization of Etruscan Population. Between 1998 and 2001 he spends research stages at the University of Gottingen, Germany and the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he acquired technical skills in the study of ancient DNA. In 2001 he was a research fellow at the Department of Animal Biology and Genetics of the University of Florence. In 2004 he was appointed as a Researcher in sector Anthropology, and in 2005 he becameProfessor of Molecular Anthropology in the Faculty of Sciences at the same university. Since 2007 he has also taught Human Ecology for the degree course in Formative Sciences in the faculty of Formative Sciences. In 2007 he was named coordinator of the Masters course in Technological Applications for Scientific Investigation. He also is part of the organizing committee for the Master in Biological Anthropology of the Mediterranean Region. From 2005 he has been a member of the college of docents of the PhD program in Anthropological Sciences( supervisor of ten Ph.D students and seven post doc). He is an active consultant for the Scientific Crime Investigation section of the Carabinieri (RIS) for which he genetically characterizes biological samples. He is coordinator of various research programs among which is a program of "national interest" (PRIN 2006 scientific coordinator of local unit).
