Dear Family Tree DNA HAPLOGROUP Administrator ,
As you are probably aware the time that it takes to process a Deep Clade test is longer or much longer then the amount of time that we usually take to process other orders. The reason for this is that the Deep Clade is more of a scientific discovery process then a discrete DNA test.
Upon analysis of the SNP processing line we have found that with so many sub-branches of the tree (and more coming in 6-8 weeks) it isn’t commercially feasible to continue offering the Deep Clade test as currently designed.
Frankly, running up to 36 SNPs (in Deep R) to obtain a ‘terminal’ branches clogs up our pipeline in the lab, annoys the customer due to the time that it takes, and gets in the way of real discovery science which we’d like to increase rather then decrease.
After polling some members of the community, and offering a choice: raise the price or drop the test, the overwhelming response that came back was: raise the price but don’t drop the test.
While we are increasing the price of the Deep Clade test, there will be no changes to single SNP tests for those who have a good idea of where they fall on the tree. In that regard, I want to thank you, as a Haplogroup Administrator, for doing a great job in counseling your members on how to test one or two SNPs to get to a successful ‘terminal’ branch of the tree.
Therefore please understand that effective today the price of the Deep Clade test will be raised to $139. The fee for the Single SNPs will continue at $29/SNP.
Thanks for your understanding.
Best Regards,
Bennett Greenspan
