Hello Professor Richards,
You conclude in you paper "A substantial prehistoric European ancestry amongst Ashkenazi maternal lineages" based on the absence of K1a1b1a haplogroup among the Mizrahim Jews. I am an Ashkenazi Jew, my result is K1a1b1a (16223T, 16224C, 16234T, 16311C, 16519C) tested in FTDNA I and have one match with a Mizrahi Jew from Syria. My father is also K1a1b1a (16224C, 16234T, 16311C, 16519C) and he has one match with a Mizrahi Jew from Yemen. I think, these results might affect your conclusions. What is your opinion on this? I can send you the screenshots of my results or ask FTDNA to send you my information that may be necessary for you.
Sincerely, Dmitry Tartakovsky, PhD student in the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

Dear Dimitry,
Thanks for your email. I don’t think these results affect our conclusions though. They are very rare in their respective populations, and phylogeographic data are always a bit “noisy” in this way due to unrecognised gene flow, possibly quite recent.
Best wishes,
Martin
