Ken Nordtvedt posted this at Y-DNA Haplogroup I on rootsweb forum:
"Three Scandinavians have been reported M514+, and their haplotypes are not close to each other. They are otherwise I1*-generic, with I1*-generic indicating between 35 and 40 percent of all I1(xL22) and void of any clear clade membership.
M514 is also a snp found in part of R1a. So it could have a higher than average mutation rate.
But given the quite different but generic nature of the three found M514 within I1*, I would suggest more robust testing of this snp by others of this breed in order to see if it is more widespread. The three found M514+ certainly do not look like cousins.
It is also known as rs17315926

If you are I1 and want to check your YDNA go to
1. "Account" next to your name
2. Press "Browse Raw Data" and you will see two boxes
3. in the box to the right where it says "a SNP" write the SNP number "rs17315926"
4. Press button "Go"
5. You will see a line with information and under versions it says "C or T" and to the right of that you will see what you have a "C" or a "T"
6. If you have "T" you are M514+
23andMe say that they believe that there must be many more than the three individuals now found to be M514+ but that they have no time to browse through every YDNA-I1 raw data.
The three M514+ were found in v3.
If you are interested take a look to see if you are M514+.
